Grand East Africa Safari – 20 Days with gorillas & wildebeest migration

Grand East Africa Safari takes you on an exciting journey across three of Africa’s most stunning countries. Together, you will explore Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania on one epic trip. Yet each country offers something truly unique. For a start, Uganda gives you rushing rivers, dense rainforests, and rare mountain gorillas. Similarly, Kenya rewards you with open savannahs and the last two northern white rhinos on earth. Meanwhile, Tanzania dazzles you with the endless Serengeti and the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Ultimately, these three countries combine to create the most complete African safari experience you can find. Without doubt, this is East Africa at its very best..

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe — Transfer to Kampala

Your adventure begins the moment you land at Entebbe International Airport. A friendly driver and guide will meet you at the arrivals hall. They will then transfer you to your hotel in Kampala for your first night. You can choose from the budget-friendly Boma Hotel, the mid-range Cassia Lodge, or the luxurious Serena Hotel Kampala. Dinner is included. Rest well — your big journey starts tomorrow.

Day 2: White Water rafting on the Nile in Jinja of the Grand East Africa Safari

After breakfast, your guide drives you to Jinja, the source of the Nile. Here, you strap on your gear and take on the powerful rapids of the world’s longest river. You can choose a half-day or full-day rafting experience. After the thrill, you explore Jinja town and browse local craft shops for souvenirs. In the evening, you return to your hotel in Kampala for dinner.

Day 3: Drive to Kibale National Park of the Grand East Africa Safari

After breakfast, you set off early for a five-hour drive to Fort Portal town. Along the way, you pass beautiful countryside and make planned stops. As you get closer, Fort Portal slowly comes into view, sitting in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains. Indeed, the views are simply stunning. Finally, you arrive and settle in at your chosen lodge — Kibale Forest Camp for budget travelers, Turaco Treetops for mid-range, or the elegant Papaya Lake Lodge for luxury guests. Best of all, all meals are included, so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your evening in comfort.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park

Today is one of the most memorable days of the trip. After an early breakfast, you head straight into Kibale Forest National Park — widely known as the primate capital of the world. From the moment you enter, knowledgeable park rangers lead you through the forest. As you walk deeper in, you watch and learn about the rich plant and animal life around you. Then, without warning, you find the chimpanzees. For a while, you simply observe them play, feed, and interact in their natural home. Later in the afternoon, you visit the Bigodi Swamp, a haven for birds and wildlife. Finally, you return to your lodge where all meals are included.

Day 5: Caves, Crater Lakes & Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you visit the Amabere ga Nyina Mwiru Caves and nearby crater lakes, just ten kilometers from Fort Portal. Your guide shares the fascinating history and cultural meaning behind these ancient formations. You return to Fort Portal for lunch and then tour the historic Tooro Kingdom Palace. In the evening, you drive two hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park, following the scenic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Budget guests stay at Bush Lodge, mid-range at Kasenyi Safari Camp, and luxury travelers at the stunning Kyambura Gorge Lodge.

Day 6: Game Drive and Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

You wake up early and head out for a morning game drive. The park teems with lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks. Keep your camera ready because surprises happen around every corner. In the afternoon, you board a boat for a cruise along the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. Hippos, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species line the water’s edge. This boat cruise is perfect for wildlife photography and bird lovers alike.

Day 7: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park of the Grand East Africa Safari

Today, you travel through the Kigezi highlands — often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” Along the way, terraced hillsides, winding roads, and green valleys surround you as you drive toward Bwindi. As you go deeper, you pass through small towns, local farms, and lush plantations. Meanwhile, every bend in the road reveals a new and breathtaking view. Finally, by evening, you arrive at your lodge in Bwindi. Depending on your budget, you can choose from Buhoma Community Camp, Rushaga Gorilla Camp, or the luxurious Mahogany Springs Lodge. Best of all, all meals are included. Therefore, all you need to do is settle in and relax. So rest up well — because tomorrow is without doubt the biggest day of the entire safari

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

You rise before dawn, eat breakfast, and arrive at the park offices by 7:00 am. Rangers brief you on the rules and safety procedures. Then, in small groups of eight, you step into the dense forest in search of mountain gorillas. The trek can be tough — the forest is steep, wet, and wild. However, the moment you come face to face with a mountain gorilla, every step feels worth it. You spend one precious hour with the gorillas in their natural home. Uganda Wildlife Authority awards you a certificate at the end of the experience. You spend the afternoon relaxing at your lodge.

Day 9: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you leave Bwindi and head to Lake Mburo National Park. Along the way, you stop in Mbarara for a satisfying lunch. Once you arrive, you quickly discover that Lake Mburo is the easiest place in Uganda to see large herds of zebras. In addition, you also spot buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, elands, and antelopes roaming freely across the park. Later in the afternoon, you take a relaxing boat ride on Lake Mburo. As you glide across the water, hippos surface around you, and birds of every color dart through the air. Finally, as evening falls, you overnight at Rwakobo Rock Lodge (budget), Mburo Safari Lodge (mid-range), or the beautiful Mihingo Lodge (luxury).

Day 10: Walking Safari, then Fly to Nairobi

You start the morning with a guided walking safari inside the park. On foot, you get closer to nature in a way no vehicle can offer. Your ranger points out animals, plants, and tracks along the trail. After lunch, you drive to Kampala and stop at the Equator line for photos and shopping. You then continue to Entebbe International Airport and board your flight to Nairobi.

Day 11: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya of the Grand East Africa Safari

Your guide picks you up from the Nairobi airport or hotel by 8:00 am. You drive north through Kenya’s central highlands toward Mount Kenya. After checking in and enjoying lunch, you head out for an afternoon game drive. Ol Pejeta is home to the Big Five. Most importantly, it protects the last two northern white rhinos on earth. You can also visit Baraka, a famous blind black rhino, and the on-site chimpanzee sanctuary.

Days 12–15: Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara

After a morning game drive at Ol Pejeta, you drive south to Lake Naivasha. Once you arrive, you enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the lake. From there, you can take a guided walk on Crescent Island or a scenic boat ride across the water. Next, you travel to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. For two full days, your expert guide drives you through the vast plains in search of lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo — the iconic Big Five. Meanwhile, between June and September, over 1.2 million wildebeest and zebras cross from the Serengeti into the Mara. If you visit during this time, your guide takes you to witness this breathtaking spectacle along the crocodile-filled Mara River.

Days 16–18: The Serengeti, Tanzania

You cross into Tanzania at the Isebania border and drive into the northern Serengeti. For two days, you explore one of the greatest wildlife habitats on the planet. You watch lions, cheetahs, and leopards hunt across the open plains. If you visit between June and October, you witness massive herds crossing the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. On Day 18, you drive four hours south to Central Serengeti — the Seronera area. This part of the park holds the highest concentration of predators and prey. You explore different habitats and cover vast stretches of the endless savannah.

Day 19: Ngorongoro Crater of the Grand East Africa Safari

After breakfast, you depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you stop at Oldupai Gorge, where the Leakey family made world-changing discoveries about early human life. As a result, this short stop gives you a fascinating glimpse into the story of mankind. Then, in the afternoon, you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater — a collapsed volcanic caldera teeming with wildlife. Once inside, you search for lions, elephants, black rhinos, cheetahs, hippos, and flamingos on the crater lakes. Finally, as the sun begins to set, you drive to Karatu for your final overnight stay.

Day 20: Departure from Arusha

After breakfast, you travel to Arusha Airport for your flight home. Your Grand East Africa Safari comes to a close — but the memories stay with you forever.
