Place to see Gorillas in Uganda

What is the best place to see Gorillas in Uganda?

The place to see Gorillas in Uganda. Mountain gorillas in Uganda live in the epic Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. These parks are in the southwestern mountains of the country. If you are looking for the best place to see Gorillas in Uganda, these two are the answer.  Gorilla parks are 450km away from Kampala city Uganda’s capital which is a day drive approximately 10 to 11 hours drive. Also, you can access the two parks by chartering a flight to the two national parks. This however comes with an extra cost.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was founded in 1991 to conserve endangered mountain gorillas. The national park lies in South West Uganda in District Kanungu covering a total area of 331 square kilometers. The park harbors over 23 gorilla families ready for trekking that are across four regions. These are the Buhoma sector, the Ruhija sector, the Rushaga Sector, and the Nkuringo sector. Gorilla trekking is an exciting activity where visitors hike to the dense tropical rainforests. Consequently, they search for the gorillas in search of their natural habitat.
Bwindi is endowed with a wide range of biodiversity in both the lowland and montane forests. This thus offers a home to over 50% of the total population of mountain Gorillas. Hence, it is the easiest place in the world to see mountain Gorillas. Bwindi also hosts about 120 species of mammal inclusive of 13 primate species. The park also hosts 350 species of birds and 220 colorful species of butterflies. These are alongside a sizeable population of reptiles and amphibians.
Conservation in gorilla parks
Thanks to the income the park generates from tourism activities. This is because the income aids the protection and conservation park’s elusive endangered mountain gorilla population. This has thus led to a positive change in about half of the world’s population of mountain Gorillas. Bwindi also offers a big opportunity to encounter a variety of other primate species. These include L’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and olive baboons. You can encounter them on your Mountain gorilla trekking experience in the thick rainforest of Bwindi. Once you reach there, you’ll realize that they’re the best place to see gorillas is in Uganda.

Best Time to See Gorillas in Uganda

Uganda faces two climatic seasonal changes throughout the year which are the dry and the wet season. In this case, the dry season period which occurs two times a year stands as the best time. It’s also the most favorable time to see the mountain Gorillas in the wild. It’s thus the best time for most tourists to visit Uganda. The dry season comes from June to September and December to March. Thus, this is when the trekking conditions are more favorable.
National parks in Uganda have fewer crowds and you can have cheap affordable accommodation facilities during the low season. This is because of few visitors to this park. This happens between March to May and October to November. Thus, Uganda in this period is the best time for low-budget travelers. Game spotting in other Uganda savanna national parks is also favorable during the dry season. However, Uganda is open to visitors throughout the year for Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. The gorilla parks are also good birding areas.

What is the price of Gorilla Trekking Permits?

The gorilla trekking permit is 800 USD for foreign non-residents, 700 USD for foreign residents, and 300,000 UGX for East African residents. Also, the Gorilla habituation permit is 1500 USD and this will allow you to spend more time with Mountain Gorillas. All these fares are per person per day Uganda concludes the entire African wildlife and adventure at an affordable price ranging from game spots, culture and birding safari, and white water rafting among others combined to the Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari. Communities living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Batwa pygmies are the biggest population living around Bwindi National Park. They’re along with some tribes of the Bakiga who largely rely upon the park. These tribes comprise of big population size with high birth rates and extremely low living standards. The Batwa pygmies formally stayed inside the forest and relied on the forest for food and shelter. The park management relocated them to the forest edge. This was to make room for the mountain gorilla protection and conservation. These communities play a principal role in gorilla protection projects. This is because of their vast information about the gorillas as they are accustomed to enduring them.

Mount Sabinyo Hike in Mgahinga National Park

Mount Sabinyo is an extinct volcano within the Virunga Range. Its narrower summit looks like worn teeth when compared to the leveler peak from neighboring mountains. The slopes and mountains are homes of the endangered mountain gorillas and other animals. These include elephants, buffaloes, and various forest antelopes. Mount Sabyinyo can only be accomplished in Uganda at the moment as there is no route formed between the ridges of the Congo and Rwanda sections. There are plans by the Rwandan Government to curve away through craters and ridges for tourists to begin the adventure of going to Rwanda. This Mount Sabinyo Hiking takes about 8 hours starting from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
