Planning Together
What Makes a Destination Good for a Uganda Group Tour?
The best destination for a group safari is not necessarily the park with the longest wildlife list. Group travel requires destinations where activities, accommodation, transport and daily timing can work smoothly for several travellers at once. Uganda performs particularly well because its major safari areas offer very different experiences that can be connected into one private journey.
A group can trek mountain gorillas in Uganda, track chimpanzees, enjoy traditional game drives, take wildlife boat cruises and add cultural or adventure experiences without needing to build several separate holidays. The key is choosing destinations that match the group’s interests and then arranging them in a sensible geographical order.
Quick Selection
Choose a Destination by Group Interest
Different groups travel for different reasons. These are some of the strongest starting points.
Gorilla Groups
Choose Bwindi or Mgahinga for Uganda’s signature mountain gorilla experience.
Wildlife Groups
Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls provide the strongest classic safari combinations.
Primate Groups
Combine Kibale chimpanzees with Bwindi gorillas for a primate-focused journey.
Adventure Groups
Jinja adds rafting, kayaking and Nile-side activities before or after a safari.

01 • Signature Experience
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park — Best for Gorilla Trekking Groups
Bwindi is one of the most important destinations to consider when organising a memorable Uganda gorilla safari. The main experience is trekking through mountain rainforest to find a habituated mountain gorilla family.
For groups, however, planning must begin with permits rather than accommodation. Gorilla trekking operates under strict visitor limits. A maximum of eight visitors normally trek a habituated gorilla family during the standard experience. A group larger than eight therefore needs places allocated across more than one gorilla family, and potentially different trekking groups.
Bwindi is divided into the Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo trekking sectors. The confirmed permit sector should determine where the group stays. Booking a lodge far from the assigned trekking sector can create an unnecessarily difficult early-morning transfer.
Reserve gorilla permits before finalising the lodge when travelling with a larger party.

02 • Classic Safari
Queen Elizabeth National Park — Best All-Round Group Safari Destination
For groups that want a classic African wildlife experience without making the itinerary unnecessarily complicated, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the strongest choices.
The park combines game drives with a completely different style of wildlife viewing on the Kazinga Channel. A morning drive can focus on elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs and predators, while an afternoon boat safari gives the group time to relax together while watching hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds and wildlife along the shoreline.
Queen Elizabeth is especially useful in a multi-destination group tour because of its position between Kibale and Bwindi. Instead of travelling long distances simply to reach another park, the journey can progress naturally from chimpanzees in Kibale to savannah wildlife in Queen Elizabeth and onward toward gorillas in Bwindi.

🦁
Game Drives
Explore open savannah areas for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators.
🛥️
Kazinga Channel
An excellent shared group activity with rewarding water-based wildlife viewing.
🌳
Ishasha
Search for the area’s famous tree-climbing lions while travelling toward Bwindi.

03 • Wildlife & The Nile
Murchison Falls National Park — Best for Wildlife and Nile Experiences
Murchison Falls National Park works exceptionally well for groups because its main experiences complement each other rather than compete for time.
A well-planned stay can include an early game drive across the savannah, a boat safari along the Victoria Nile and a visit to the waterfall itself. The park provides opportunities to see giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lions and numerous birds, while the river adds hippos, crocodiles and striking waterside scenery.
Groups arriving from Kampala or Entebbe can also consider adding rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary along the broader northern route. For travellers with more days, Murchison can form the northern beginning of a longer journey through Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi.

04 • Primate Country
Kibale National Park — Best for Chimpanzee Groups
Kibale is the natural choice for groups interested in primates beyond mountain gorillas. The main attraction is chimpanzee trekking in Uganda, where visitors enter tropical forest with guides to search for habituated chimpanzees.
For itinerary design, Kibale’s greatest strength is its position in western Uganda. It connects logically with Queen Elizabeth National Park, creating a transition from forest primates to savannah wildlife. Groups continuing south can then add Bwindi, producing one of Uganda’s most rewarding combinations: chimpanzees + wildlife + mountain gorillas.
Chimpanzee permits should be secured early for sizeable parties. When availability is limited, the group may need to be divided between available trekking arrangements rather than assuming everyone can simply arrive and participate together.

Travelling With 8, 10, 15 or More People?
Permit availability, lodge room inventory and vehicle configuration become increasingly important as the group grows. We can build the route around your actual group size instead of trying to fit your party into a standard safari package.
Beyond the Main Circuit
Four More Destinations Worth Considering for Groups
Not every Uganda group tour needs to follow exactly the same route. These destinations can add adventure, slower-paced wildlife viewing or remote wilderness depending on the group’s priorities.
05
Jinja & the Nile
Excellent for active groups, friends and corporate-style trips wanting rafting, kayaking, boat activities or a relaxing Nile-side extension before or after the main safari.
06
Lake Mburo
A convenient addition to southwestern routes, with zebras, impalas, walking experiences, game viewing and boat activities. It works particularly well as an opening or final safari stop.
07
Kidepo Valley
Best for groups with enough time for a more remote expedition. Kidepo rewards the additional logistics with broad valleys, dramatic mountain scenery and a powerful wilderness atmosphere.
08
Mgahinga
Ideal for active groups interested in gorillas, golden monkeys and the Virunga landscape. Hiking experiences can make Mgahinga particularly rewarding for physically active parties.
Build a Logical Journey
Recommended Uganda Group Safari Combinations
A successful group tour should not simply include as many national parks as possible. Transfer times, permit dates and the number of nights at each destination should create a comfortable progression.
5–6 DAYS
Short Gorilla & Wildlife Group Tour
Queen Elizabeth → Bwindi
Ideal for groups with limited time that want classic wildlife plus gorilla trekking.
7–8 DAYS
Classic Western Uganda
Kibale → Queen Elizabeth → Bwindi
A particularly strong combination of chimpanzees, savannah wildlife and gorillas.
9–11 DAYS
Complete Wildlife & Primates
Murchison → Kibale → Queen Elizabeth → Bwindi
Excellent for first-time visitors wanting several of Uganda’s signature experiences.
12–14 DAYS
Comprehensive Uganda Group Safari
Add Ziwa, Lake Mburo, Lake Bunyonyi, cultural experiences or Jinja while maintaining enough time to enjoy each major park.
For inspiration, compare our 10-day Uganda gorillas, chimpanzees and wildlife safari, which demonstrates how several of these experiences can be linked in one journey.
Important for Large Parties
How Gorilla Trekking Works for a Large Group
Gorilla trekking is often the activity that determines the rest of a Uganda group itinerary. Standard gorilla trekking permits are issued for particular dates and trekking areas, and only a limited number of visitors can visit each habituated gorilla family.
A party of six can normally remain within the capacity of one gorilla trekking group when the appropriate permits are available. A party of twelve cannot simply trek one gorilla family together because the standard maximum is eight visitors per habituated family. The travellers therefore need to be allocated across at least two available families.
This does not mean large-group gorilla safaris are impractical. It simply means they should be organised earlier. Safari Vacations and Travel Services can coordinate permit availability with the selected Bwindi trekking sector, accommodation and transport so that the group remains logistically connected even where trekking assignments differ.
Where to Stay
Accommodation for Uganda Group Tours
Accommodation selection becomes more important as the party grows. A beautiful six-room lodge may be perfect for a couple but unsuitable for a 20-person group. We therefore consider room inventory, location, group dining, vehicle access and overall practicality alongside scenery, service and budget.
More Than Choosing a Nice Lodge
What We Check When Booking Accommodation for a Group
Group accommodation needs to work operationally as well as visually. We therefore check the property against the final number of travellers before confirming the itinerary.
Important for Bwindi Group Accommodation
For gorilla trekking groups, we do not choose accommodation based only on price or lodge appearance. Your lodge should correspond with the confirmed trekking sector—Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga or Nkuringo—to avoid unnecessary early-morning transfers on the day of your gorilla trek.
Moving Together
Transport for Group Tours in Uganda

Transport should be selected according to group size, route and safari style rather than simply putting everyone into the largest available vehicle.
Smaller private groups can use customised safari Land Cruisers, while larger parties can travel using several safari vehicles or an appropriate larger vehicle such as a safari van or Coaster depending on the route. For wildlife-focused itineraries, multiple safari vehicles can sometimes produce a better viewing experience because travellers have more window space and flexibility during game drives.
Our Uganda safari planning team can recommend the configuration based on the final number of travellers rather than using a one-size-fits-all arrangement.

Local Safari Planning
Planning Your Group Tour With Safari Vacations and Travel Services
Group travel becomes much easier when one local safari team coordinates the different components. Safari Vacations and Travel Services Ltd can arrange the journey from arrival to departure, including primate permits, accommodation, private transport, professional driver-guides, park activities and airport transfers.
Rather than forcing the group into a fixed departure, we can build a custom Uganda safari around your travel dates, number of participants, preferred accommodation level and priority experiences.
This is particularly important when gorilla or chimpanzee trekking is involved because permit availability may determine which dates and sectors work best. Once those fixed activities are secured, the surrounding wildlife parks and accommodation can be organised into a logical route.
Planning Questions
Uganda Group Tour FAQs
Can a group safari include travellers with different interests?
Yes. We can combine shared activities with optional experiences, such as game drives, birdwatching, cultural visits or relaxation. Gorilla and chimpanzee tracking remain subject to permit availability, age requirements and individual fitness.
What is the best destination for a first-time group safari in Uganda?
Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the strongest all-round choices because it combines game drives and a boat safari and connects conveniently with Kibale and Bwindi. For groups primarily interested in gorillas, Bwindi should be the priority.
Can a group of more than eight people trek gorillas?
Yes. However, standard gorilla trekking limits the number of visitors assigned to each habituated gorilla family. Groups larger than eight therefore need to be allocated across multiple available gorilla families.
Are Uganda group safaris private?
They can be. Safari Vacations and Travel Services can organise a private itinerary specifically for your friends, family, club, organisation or other travel party rather than placing you into a general scheduled departure.
How far in advance should a group safari be booked?
Groups planning gorilla or chimpanzee trekking should book as early as practical because several permits are required for the same travel date. Larger groups also need sufficient lodge room inventory, which can become limited during popular travel periods.
What is the best Uganda route for gorillas, chimpanzees and wildlife?
Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi form one of the most logical western Uganda circuits. With additional time, Murchison Falls can be added to create a more comprehensive wildlife and primate journey.
Can accommodation be selected according to our group budget?
Yes. A group safari can use budget, mid-range or luxury accommodation. The important consideration is finding suitable properties with enough rooms in the correct locations for the group’s confirmed activities.
