Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park

Our diver guide will meet you at the airport. Thereafter, you will drive to your booked hotel where you will check in and relax. You will also have an overnight stay as you prepare for the next activities.

Day 2: Morning and evening game drive

You will get up early have breakfast and get ready to explore this savannah park. The Akagera National Park is home to the big 5 animals. You will get to see lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, and the smaller game like antelopes, Kobs, and impalas. This morning game drive will give you a chance to catch the early risers. After this, you will get back to your hotel for lunch, relax, and prepare for the evening game drive.

Then, the evening game drive will also give you a chance to spot the animals you might have missed in the morning game drive, and also catch the nocturnal animals. You will head back to your hotel after this for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Boat trip to Lake Ihema

After your breakfast, you will meet your driver guide as you get ready for the boat trip around Lake Ihema. You will get the chance to experience the beauty of its lakes, which is the second biggest lake in Rwanda. Furthermore, you will also get a chance to see aquatic animals like hippos and crocodiles. After this experience, you will get back to your hotel for lunch and get ready for fishing. Fishing usually takes place at Lake Shekaniwhich is popular for its variety of fish species, especially tilapia and catfish. Visitors who wish to go fishing are expected to carry their equipment. After this amazing activity, you will then drive back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Hiking and guided nature walk

After you’ve had your breakfast early enough, you will meet your guide. Your guide will take you through this experience. This will allow you to view a variety of flora and fauna species, including plants, insects, butterflies, and bird species. After this, you will get back to your hotel, check in, and set off to Kahuzi Biega National Park in DR Congo.

Day 5: Lowland gorilla trekking

After breakfast, meet up with your driver guide and head to the park headquarters for a briefing about the trek. After the briefing, you will enter the forest and begin the search for the lowland gorillas. You will meet these creatures in a shorter time compared to the mountain gorillas. Enjoy an hour in their presence. You are free to take pictures with the gorillas. After this experience, you will get back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for successful gorilla trekking.

Thereafter, you will get back to your hotel for a late lunch, and the rest of the day will be spent at the lodge. Dinner will be served, and you will spend another night in Bukavu town.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali

Breakfast at your hotel will be served and you will enjoy your last meal in Bukavu town. Check out of your hotel and embark on your direct transfer back to Kigali. You will drive for 4 to 5 hours, thereafter you will also have lunch in Butare, continue, and arrive in Kigali where your trip will end.
